UK-EU deal impact on border infrastructure DPHA Statement

We are pleased to see that the Government is seeking to reset controls at the border, focussing on biosecurity, and the critical work of the Dover Port Health Authority in identifying and removing illegal meat and food imports at the point that they arrive into the country at its border, here in Dover and at Coquelles.

The risks created from illegal meat and food imports and their potential impact on this country are undeniable and Dover Port Health Authority will do all that it can to continue to safeguard this border, with over 80 tonnes removed since January 2025 alone.

We remain fully committed to working with the Government to ensure the most bio-secure delivery of illegal meat and food controls on the ground in Dover and Coquelles, where we continue to see escalating and unequivocable numbers of illegal meat and food trying to come through the Dover border.

This is reinforced by comments made by the DEFRA Secretary of State Rt Hon Steve Reed OBE MP and Emily Miles, Director General at DEFRA at an oral evidence session held on 20 May, [see UK Parliament Committees pages (we note comments made 11:20:20 to 11:22:20)]. https://lnkd.in/g-5JY3Zxhashtag#DPHA
